Counselling Services
What is counselling and why might I benefit from it?
Counselling is a confidential space to talk about and explore any issues that are causing you difficulty in your life. This can be something that has been troubling you for a while, or something that’s happened recently. Whatever it may be, counselling is a talking therapy that lets you have time and space to explore.
Counselling works, not by fixing people, but by supporting you through your own truths and aiding you to trust and understand yourself. It is an entirely safe space where you can truly be listened to and understood without any judgement by someone not involved in your every day life.
Many people talk to their friends and family when they have a problem, but often people can want to give advice and try and solve the problem, or may have an emotional response. Counselling with someone not involved in your normal life creates a powerful experience which can lead to profound and lasting positive change in your life.
Counselling can help with lots of different issues including:
Relationship issues
Bereavement and loss
Work issues
Stress
Anxiety
Self-esteem and confidence issues
Feeling stuck
Usually it is helpful to come to counselling once a week initially, which allows us to get to know each other and start the process of therapy. We will both discuss how we feel it is going at regular points, and we may move to fortnightly sessions. Some clients like to come monthly or less frequently when the main therapy work has occurred, to check in or use the space when life feels busy or unmanageable.
I offer a totally non- judgemental space and the time is there to do what you want to with it; some weeks you may want to sit in silence, to work creatively to express yourself, to cry, to talk.
I work openly and honestly and aim to have a transparent relationship. We will have informal check-in points, where we can both talk openly and safely about how things are going and if you are happy. A lot of the real work in therapy comes with being able to have honest conversations in a safe space.
I understand that it can feel overwhelming to ask for help. I aim to provide a relationship that is healing, helpful and equips you with the tools, greater understanding and knowledge of yourself to live your life in the way that feels best for you.
